NEW STUDENT? READ ON

Congratulations on your exciting first step. Here are a few suggestions on how to make your dance experience with Mad Academy more enjoyable and rewarding.

  • Arrive for class 20 minutes early!
  • You will receive a name tag at the registration desk
  • Dress is casual and comfortable
  • Footwear - soft or leather soles. Ladies flats or low heels please
  • No partner is necessary
  • We rotate everyone in class
  • Class progression - each week we review and build on the prior weeks material

WHERE & WHEN TO PRACTICE

Don't wait, getting out and practicing what you learned in class or private lessons is important to your overall improvement. We have several opportunities for you to have fun, meet some friendly people and dance a lot.

Want to dance but don't have the funds right now? We have a wonderful and very successful volunteer work - study program for anyone interested in becoming an Academy staff volunteer.

We believe anyone who wants to improve or are just learning to dance should not be turned away for lack of funds. If this sounds good to you, or you know someone who may benefit from this program. Debbie Ramsey Boz - Co Director & Artist Director

Having lived most of her life in Los Angeles, California, Debbie has been fortunate to study with some of the most gifted choreographers and performers in Hollywood. She works as a professional actress and dancer and has been featured in many films and television shows. Some of her partners and students have been, Donald Sutherland, Brendon Frasier, Sylvester Stallone and Dolly Parton, She was the choreographer for the Country Waltz as well as the Tennessee bar room dance scenes in the feature film Rhinstone. She has choreographed for dance teams, competitors, Vegas acts, commercials and film. Her film and television dance credits include lead dancer with Donald Sutherland in Younger And Younger, Back To The Future 1 & 2, Fast Times At Ridgemont High, Hill Street Blues, Murder She Wrote, Simon & Simon, The Fall Guy and Major Dad. She has been an active member for the past 28 years in both SAG and AFTRA.

She is a three time Winner of the Feather Award for "Top Female Teacher in The United States". Two time Humanitarian Award winner on both the East and West Coast for her impact and support of the Swing Dance Communities across the Nation. And, she is a three time inductee into the California Swing Dance Hall of Fame. The head choreographer and director for the 2002-3 national touring performance team "swingalings", Debbie has been instrumental in guiding them to a number of national championships including the 2003 U.S. Swing Dance Championship title.

Wesley Boz - Co Director

In 1998 Wesley began his dancing career in New York City, NY at the Sandra Cameron Dance Studio. As a member of the Sandra Cameron Performance Company, Wesley had the opportunity to performance on both television and the movies. Over the next five years he studied with New York City based master teachers Frankie Manning, Peter Difalco, Eddie Torres, Jimmy Anton, Angel Figuaroa in and Skippy Blair in Los Angeles, CA. A graduate of the Golden State Teachers Association, Wesley is a nationally recognized judge, touring instructor and deejay.

Instructors

Peter diFalco - Master Instructor, Choreographer, Past Director of A New York based Flaminco Dance Company and past Director of Sandra Camerons Dance Company in New York City. Over 4o years of teaching experience.

Curtis Bass - A native Tarheel, Curtis began his teaching career as an instructor at Arthur Murray Studio in 1982. His first love is ballroom, but he's also at home with country-western, latin and swing.  He has competed and performed at regional ballroom, country-western and swing events and has been a member of several dance teams including the Longbranch Dance Team, Carolina Swingshift, Whiplash and Entourage.  When he can find the time he also works as a dance  host on a number of national cruise ship lines teaching and performing. 

Peter Kaufman - Peter began his dance career in Ithaca, New York as a teacher and board member of the Ithaca Swing Dance Network. Peter and his wife relocated to North Carolina and has been teaching Jitterbug, West Coast Swing and Lindy classes for us every since.
